Hunting knives
Bowie styles are the most common type of hunting knives. The length of the blade is usually between 6 and 12 inches and the back top of the blade curves in, giving it its distinct look. This was originally designed to catch an opponent’s blade during battle, but modern Bowies have retained the shape for authenticity.
Many hunting knives have distinct shapes, used for different purposes, including:
• Caping
• Drop point
• Clip point
• Skinning
• Boning
Hunting knives often come in fixed position, but it’s possible to get folding blades for easy transport. Fixed-position blades are larger and safer, which make them more popular out on the field. Before purchasing a knife, check with your state’s laws regarding their legality (for example, it is now illegal to own a Bowie knife in Texas).
